What is the Edinburgh Coffee Festival?
Mansfield Traquair will host the first ever Edinburgh Coffee Festival on October 3rd, 2015.
The Edinburgh Coffee Festival will feature expert talks from coffee-crazed experts from around Scotland, experiments, tasting opportunities and demonstrations.
Will you be going?
Scotland’s vibrant coffee scene is growing at a rate of noughts, and you don’t need to throw a bean far to find an expert who know’s his roasts. The event, which will host over 30 exhibitors, is the perfect opportunity for people to meet suppliers, talk techniques and find out more about the provenance of the brews your enjoy.
What’s On?
Brew Lab, who recently featured in our ‘Best Edinburgh Coffee’ article, will be teaching visitors how to pour the perfect espresso shot. Samples of their cold brew from their popup cold brew bar will also be available. Brew Lab will be joined by Twelve Triangles – the producers of the finest doughnuts in all of Edinburgh, and possibly even Scotland!
One of the exhibitors, Roast Central, will be conducting an experiment at the Festival on 3rd October to try and discover if it is possible to influence the taste of coffee with different music.
Visitors to Roast Central at the Festival will be given a choice of two coffees with different flavour profiles, and will be asked to choose between a number of different music tracks to listen to through headphones whilst sampling the coffee. They will then be required to answer a short list of questions regarding the taste of the coffee they have experienced.
Iain Birse, co-owner of Roast Central, had the following to say about the experiment:
“After reading and researching the theory that our senses might not be as separate as we first thought, I was interested to see whether an experiment using sound could reveal more about the way we perceive the taste of coffee.”
Martin Dare, Edinburgh Coffee Festival organiser, said:
“We look forward to welcoming 25 specially handpicked suppliers to Mansfield Traquair. These roasters, brewers, baristas and coffee bar owners are enthusiastic and passionate about their products and so our visitors will gain a wealth of knowledge and insight in the world’s coffee and tea industry as well as the industry closer to home in Scotland. Of course, the festival isn’t only about coffee. We will also welcome tea and chocolate merchants and
other independent vendors, making for a fantastic all round day-out for foodies.”
