Meet Edinburgh Artisan Food
A couple of months ago we started offering our guests the option of having local artisan food delivered to the door of the flat they were staying in – something that has proved to be quite popular. The company behind the idea and the gourmet deliveries is Edinburgh Artisan Food and the man behind the company is Duncan – a self-confessed Edinburgh foodie who loves to cook. Duncan has kindly offered to give away a £40 voucher that can be used to buy some delicious gourmet food through Artisan Food, so make sure you read till the end to find out how to enter! We asked Duncan a few questions about his company, and here are the answers:
How did you come up with the idea behind Edinburgh Artisan Food?
I would have loved to buy from the traditional local butchers, bakers and other artisan shops in my neighbourhood but they were always closed by the time I finished work. And at the weekends, parking is difficult and expensive and time is short. I needed the convenience of the supermarkets but wanted the provenance, variety and service offered by my trusted local shops. So I created Edinburgh Artisan Food.
Can you explain briefly how your service works?
It’s rather simple! 1) Place your order on www.edinburghartisanfood.co.uk 2) Each shop packs its part of your order 3) We deliver everything to you in one go at a time that suits you
What areas do you deliver to?
We cover all postcodes from EH1 to EH21.
What is the minimum order?
Our minimum order is £20 with a £4 delivery fee.
Who are your suppliers?
We currently work with 21 suppliers but are always looking for new shops to come onboard. Currently we deliver from: Shaw Fine Meats, Armstrong’s of Stockbridge, I.J Mellis Cheese, Bakery Andante, Twelve Triangles, Cuckoo’s Bakery, S Luca Ice Cream, Coco Chocolate, Artisan Cheesecake, Ocelot Chocolate, JustBe Botanicals, Chocolate Tree, Artisan Roast Coffee, Eteaket Tea, Flavourmagic, Kitsch Soda, Supernature Oils, Gusto Artisan, Maroberts Sauce, Bottega Siciliana and Phantassie Organic.
What are your most popular products?
This is a tough question because everyone has different taste but obvious popular products are Shaw Fine Meats extra matured fillet steak, Armstrong’s of Stockbridge famous smoked salmon and Bakery Andante’s White Sourdough.
What sweet treats do you offer?
Too many to list but some of my favourites are Artisan Cheesecake’s Galaxy caramel or sticky toffee pudding cupcakes from Cuckoo’s Bakery.
What foods are you most excited about yourself?
Food is my passion and I love to cook. My favourite food is steak, and you simply cannot beat Shaw Fine Meat’s Steak selection. They source their beef from local farms in the Scottish borders only 35 miles from Edinburgh and dry age their beef on the bone, which maximises the flavour and tenderness of their beef. All their beef is dry aged for a minimum of 35 days before butchering.
Any mouth-watering suggestions for what we should order if we wanted to host a dinner?
First course would need to be freshly caught king scallops just off the Isle of Mull from Armstrongs of Stockbridge, garnished with lime and chilli. Second course would an Extra Matured Sirloin Roast served medium rare with sides of locally sourced new potatoes and steamed vegetables with ample gravy. To finish off all that lovely food, you need a simple dessert, and for me it has to be S Luca vanilla ice cream.
