Meet Bethan – Our New Digital Marketing and Social Media Manager!
Bethan Koller has just joined us at Dickins, taking over from Louisa as our Digital Marketing and Social Media Manager. Bethan first landed in Edinburgh 11 years ago from South Africa. After studying social sciences at Edinburgh Napier University and then travelling to Canada, she joined Tartan Silk PR, as an account executive. We are excited to welcome her to the team.
What is an interesting fact about me?
I love sports! Growing up in South Africa definitely opened me up to a lot of sports at a young age, doing everything from horse riding and gymnastics to hockey and swimming. I was lucky enough to go to an adventure high school which placed an emphasis on adventure sports such as rock climbing, kayaking and surfing.
Nowadays I can’t maintain the same level of involvement but my two dogs keep me outside and cycling is my go-to activity, it is a great way to explore the city!
What is your favourite sport?
It is hard to choose just one, but I would have to say horse riding, there is something special about the connection you build with your horse and it’s a lot of fun.
Do you have a guilty pleasure?
Singing! In the shower, in the car, whilst cooking… not very well though.
Here at Dickins, we love property and homes. What’s your favourite room at home?
My bedroom. Although this is likely influenced by my current living situation, a shared flat, my bedroom is the space that takes me away from everything, a place to unwind and center myself.
Who would you invite to your dream dinner party?
A typical answer would include world leaders, influencers and significant names throughout history and of course, this would be a fascinating, albeit intimidating dinner party to host! But I would do something a little different. I would like to gather a group of people from different cultures and walks of life, creating a space of sharing and learning that would be inspiring.
Dickins loves Edinburgh, what are some of your favourite places in the city?
The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh
My flat doesn’t have a garden, but it is located very close to the Botanics so I have adopted it as my garden, and occasional office on a sunny day! As soon as you walk through the gates, the noise of the city fades away and you are transported to another world.
The Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill
A favourite for dog walking, I can spend hours roaming around the hill, where the views of the city are amazing, before making my way to Hermitage House.
Montpeliers
Brunch here will always set the tone for a great day and perusing the boutiques of Bruntsfield is a treat.
Edinburgh Cycling Network
The network of paths throughout the city and allow you to cycle from Arthur’s Seat to South Queensferry and beyond, need I say more?
What are you most looking forward to about your new role at Dickins?
I am most looking forward to being part of a great team who are passionate about Edinburgh, supporting local businesses and welcoming people from all over the world to the city.
Where would you take a first-time visitor to Edinburgh to introduce them to the city?
The layout and beauty of Edinburgh make it perfect to explore on foot.
My favourite way to show friends and family around the city starts with a long walk around the New and Old Towns to show them the many layers of Edinburgh. Making many stops along the way, I will always point out highlights of the city that would interest them personally. A hike up Arthur’s Seat at the end is always a great way to get perspective on all you’ve just explored.
I will always encourage visitors to venture along the Water of Leith and wonder around areas such as Dean Village, Stockbridge, Bruntsfield, Morningside and The Shore.
And finally,What is one of your favourite things about Scotland?
Wild camping! The fact that you can go anywhere and find a spot to spend the night gives you a sense of freedom and independence when exploring the Scottish wilderness.
