1. Chop House

Chop House is a mini-chain of Edinburgh steak restaurants with three locations across the city. Each of their branches has its own trademark feel with a unique twist – like their Market Street restaurant, located in a stunning brick arch.

If you’re a meat-eater and looking for an indulgent Sunday lunch, Chop House won’t disappoint. You can expect the freshest local roast beef from their suppliers in the Scottish Borders, famous for producing some of Scotland’s finest Aberdeen Angus beef. This beautiful cut of sirloin comes served with seasonal veg, roasted potatoes, an irresistible Yorkshire pudding and delicious gravy. Sunday lunch at Chop House is served from 12pm until they run out (they’re that good) so booking in advance is highly recommended!

2. Kyloe

Kyloe is a gourmet steakhouse located in Edinburgh’s West End. With a gorgeous view of the castle, a refined dining room and an award-winning roast dinner, you can’t go wrong here. Kyloe aims to recreate the ultimate home dining experience in a restaurant environment. Their delicious roast beef is carved at your table and served with fluffy tatties, giant Yorkies and home-made pan gravy. So good, that Kyloe won the Best Roast in Britain in 2013!

3. The Pompadour

Recently taken over by Edinburgh-based chef and restaurateur, Mark Greenaway, Grazing by Mark Greenaway at the Waldorf Astoria offers the opportunity to relax, unwind and of course, eat! The menu here reflects a laidback ‘grazing’ concept and showcases a mix of traditional, modern and sharing plates. The food is made up of locally sourced ingredients and unique concept dishes created by Mark. Sunday lunch here comes with a choice of chicken or beef served with all the trimmings.

5. The Ox

The Ox | 49-51 London Street

Situated at the bottom of vibrant Broughton Street, The Ox believes in a simple, straightforward and honest approach to cooking. As well as serving scrumptious food, this restaurant is a local favourite among dog owners, with well-behaved dogs welcome in the restaurant. The dogs love it too, as they relax with a complimentary water bowl and some dog biscuits to enjoy while the humans indulge in their Sunday lunch!

6. The Gardener’s Cottage

The Gardener’s Cottage | 1 Royal Terrace Gardens

Unpretentious fine-dining and locally sourced ingredients are at the heart of this intimate restaurant, tucked away at the foot of Calton Hill in a repurposed former gardener’s cottage. Their motto is ‘slow, seasonal, sustainable’ and here, you’ll enjoy the finest Sunday lunch seated at long, communal tables. Their inventive menu will give you a taste of the finest local cuisine and a rare experience you won’t soon forget! As well as their main restaurant, they recently opened The Lookout on Calton Hill, where fine dining is paired with the most incredible views over the city.

7.The Queens Arms

This traditional pub is a hidden gem situated below the cobbles of Frederick Street. Comfortable and lined with old books, The Queens Arms prides itself on being a pub for locals and visitors to Edinburgh alike.  Their sharing lunch centres around a premium cut of beef, locally sourced from suppliers and served with all the traditional trimmings, followed by a decadent dessert. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more traditional Sunday roast in Edinburgh! Pair it with a pint or your favourite glass of wine, then sit back and relax.

From the team behind the New Chapter, Otro is a fairly new restaurant sandwiched between Edinburgh’s grand West End and bustling Haymarket. The restaurant prides itself on taking a unique approach to classic brasserie dishes. The restaurant is light and airy with lovely views of the elegant Coates Crescent. As well as the classic Sunday roast, Otro offers dishes like Hake & mash or falafel as alternatives. If you opt to enjoy Sunday lunch here, we’re sure you won’t be disappointed!

9. LeftField

LeftField is a relatively new addition to Edinburgh’s colourful food scene. If you’re looking for something a little different, this airy restaurant located right beside Bruntsfield Links is the place to go. They specialise in the best seasonable Scottish food, with steaks, seafood, organic veggies, puddings, and small producer wines on the menu. What’s on offer here often changes depending on the season, so you can go back knowing that you’ll be able to try something new.

10. The Salisbury Arms

Just because you’re vegetarian doesn’t mean you should have to miss out on a hearty Sunday lunch! So we had to include a great location that serves a veggie Sunday roast.

Near Newington, you’ll find The Salisbury Arms, a beautifully restored Georgian pub and restaurant serving up fresh, seasonal food alongside carefully chosen wines and real ales. More importantly, they do a delicious vegetarian Sunday roast with a hearty nut loaf made from fig and Dolcelatte cheese and served with all the trimmings, including a delicious honey-roasted apple and onion gravy. We’ve heard it’s one of the best veggie roasts in Edinburgh! You’ll also find the traditional Sunday roast here, making it a great option for veggies and meat-eaters alike to enjoy lunch together. 

11. Loudons

Loudons Cafe & Bakery | 94B Fountainbridge + 2 Sibbald Walk New Waverley

This modern and tranquil all-day eatery may not be an obvious choice for Sunday lunch, but hear us out. Their varied and extensive lunch menu means there really is something for every member of the family. You simply can’t go wrong with dishes like homemade meatballs over rice, lemon-garlic chicken or vegan quesadillas! And with comfortable seating and a laidback atmosphere, it’s a great place to kick back and relax. Loudon’s is known for being family-friendly and their large and airy locations make it easy to get in and out with a pram. They also have some fantastic desserts and baked goods on offer, so you can extend your Sunday lunch long into the afternoon!

Stay in this beautiful home on Morrison Street, in a fantastic central location in Edinburgh’s Fountainbridge. There are dozens of great cafés and restaurants on Morrison Street and around the area including Milk, Loudon’s and Shebeen. Also in the area, you’ll find theatres and independent art-house cinemas, as well as being close to Usher Hall. Haymarket Station where you can catch trains and the tram is a very short walk away too, as well as Princes Street. During the Edinburgh Festival, it’s easy to walk from here to popular areas like The Grassmarket and Cowgate. There are plenty of local supermarkets in the area, too.
