1. Dough
Dough | 172 Rose Street & 47 South Clerk Street
Dough has two restaurants in Edinburgh, the first on Rose Street and the second in Newington. If you find yourself in either place in search of somewhere to eat, look no further than Dough! Both restaurants are fairly small, but you have the option to sit outside in their Rose Street branch on a beautiful sunny day. Their philosophy is to create handcrafted, stone baked, saltwater pizza dough using fresh Italian ingredients (delivered daily). However, don’t worry if you have a food intolerance, allergy or other dietary requirements, Dough will do their best to rise to the challenge where possible!
2. @Pizza
@Pizza | 4 Charlotte Lane & 118 High Street
@Pizza is a relatively new addition to Edinburgh’s pizza scene but was an instant favourite among locals. Located on Charlotte Lane just off Queensferry Street with a newer location on the Royal Mile, @Pizza is a spacious restaurant, great for dining with a large group of friends. This alternative pizzeria has a vast array of ingredients and allows you to design your own pizza for a fixed price, meaning you won’t get charged for extra toppings. If you’re feeling a little indecisive then you can opt for one of their recipes, which includes a scrumptious dessert pizza. We thoroughly enjoy the garlic bread pizza, its deliciousness!
3. Cold Town House
Cold Town House | 4 Grassmarket
Why a brewery, you ask? Because at Cold Town House they have a whole floor dedicated to pizza and prosecco, with some of the most delicious stone-fired dough you’ll find this side of the castle! Cold Town’s artisan Neopolitan pizzas are prepared to order and fired in a custom-built stone oven. While you wait, floor to ceiling windows give you a front row seat to the Cold Town beer brewing process. Enjoy your food with a cold beer or prosecco and live entertainment or head outside to the rooftop terrace, with cosy wooden furniture, an ultra-relaxing vibe, and uninterrupted views.
4. La Favorita (Vittoria Group)
La Favorita | 331-325 Leith Walk (restaurant) and various takeaway branches
Where better to head for pizza than a third-generation Italian family restaurant? The Vittoria Group’s award-winning restaurants are dotted around Edinburgh, so there’s sure to be a branch relatively near you. La Favorita is one of our favourites, serving rustic Italian dishes and delicious log-fired pizzas. Be sure to look out for their new food truck, which is known to turn up at various spots around the city including Edinburgh Airport! And not to worry if you are gluten intolerant as nearly all their pizzas have a gluten-free option.
5. Civerinos
Civerinos | 5 Hunter Square, 49 Forrest Road, 187 St John’s Road & 47 – 49 Figgate Lane
Opened in early 2015 on Edinburgh’s Hunter Square, Civerinos offers an original, modern twist on Italian street-food. With exposed walls, sharing tables, and a glass front, there’s an urban and cool feel to the restaurant. The latest addition to the Civerinos family is Civerinos Slice, situated on Forrest Road, and in 2021 expanded outside the city centre, with Slice spots popping up in Corstorphine and Portobello recently. It’s branded itself as the neighborhood pizza bar, where you can pop in and enjoy just one (huge!) slice of pizza.
In 2020 Civerinos won the Dickins Best of Edinburgh Award for ‘Edinburgh’s Most Delicious Thing’ for their scrumptious slices, clearly a big hit amongst locals and visitors alike.
6. Origano
Origano | 227 Leith Walk
Back in Leith, in the former Victoria India Rubber Mill, Origano has become a favourite amongst locals. This open-plan dining pizza restaurant is cosy and has retained its industrial features. Freshness is at the heart of the Origano ethos and they strive to offer the best freshly-prepared and locally-sourced ingredients from fellow independent suppliers. Therefore, if you’re looking for a cosy restaurant to enjoy lunch or dinner with loved ones, we highly recommend Origano!
7. Söderberg
Söderberg | 27 Simpson Loan
For a low-key but delicious dining experience, Swedish bakery and café Söderberg is the place to go. They pride themselves on creating delicious sourdough pizzas, which are baked right above their restaurant. As a result, you are guaranteed a tasty, fresh pizza every day. Their Pavillion café, situated in Simpson Loan, is airy and stylish and the outdoor seating area even includes fluffy blankets for those sunny but chilly days!
