Rock and Soul – Essential Oils & Diffusing Jewellery
We’re very excited and proud to share with you a brilliant company with a great idea – Rock and Soul, run by Emily Laylock. We’re proud because Emily is my sister. She makes stylish jewellery with lava beads and aromatherapy oils. You add a couple of drops of the delicious smelling essential oils on the lava beads of the necklace or bracelet and they smell wonderful all day. Only available online at the moment, check out their online shop here.
The best way to tell you more about this fabulous business is to let Emily herself take over. So keep reading to learn about the story behind Rock and Soul and to find out how to enter our competition where you can win a gorgeous Howlite and Lava Stone Diffuser Necklace (with either a pink or silver tassel). 1. What was the inspiration behind Rock and Soul and how did it all get started?
Rock and Soul was created by myself and an old school friend, Betsy. Betsy designed the jewellery collection and I created a line of essential oils to give our ‘Rocks’ some ‘Soul.’ Sadly, Betsy is no longer involved with Rock and Soul as she has too many time commitments but my amazing husband Jason is now getting involved with the jewellery production. Entrepreneurship has always been strong within my family and it felt like a natural progression for Rock and Soul to follow suit.
The idea behind Rock and Soul came about whilst exploring the benefits of essential oils and the positive effects they can have on the state of mind. We have certainly experienced different levels of anxiety throughout our lives and becoming parents has at many times intensified this! At the same time though, parenthood has made us more determined to explore ways and means to help us maintain a balanced and healthy state of mind.
We love working with lava rock as its porous nature acts as an amazing natural diffuser for the essential oils. There is something reassuring about the tangible nature of the beads and the essential oils add a little cherry on top. If anything, I love the fact that they encourage you to take a few deep breaths throughout the day which is always a good thing!
Rock and Soul is committed to supporting mental health too. For every bracelet sold we donate 20% to the charity MIND as we feel the work they do is invaluable.
2. Where did you find the inspiration for your wonderful essential oils?
I created the initial collection of blends to cover the main spectrum of scent as people typically have their preference; floral, woodsy or citrusy. Beautiful Day is floral, Higher Ground is woodsy, Walking On Sunshine is citrusy and Dream Weaver has a floral/herbal composition. I have a new blend coming out soon called Purple Rain which is pretty much a combination of all of the above. We love the names of the blends as we feel like they have a bit more rock and soul and are less cliched than other products on the market. It was definitely an ‘olfactory bulb’ moment when we were hit with that bolt of inspiration!
3. What does a ‘typical’ working day look like for you?
Running around after my 2 boys (13 months and 4.5 years.) My eldest is at school now but the wee one is at home with me throughout the week. I try to catch up with emails when he naps but typically find myself in production mode late into the evenings and on the weekends. Our trips to various baby groups often involve a run to the post office to send out orders.
4. Which are your top sellers at the moment?
Our Silver and Lava Friendship Bracelet is probably our best seller. I recently introduced a new Lava Triangle Pendant and Hot Pink Crackle Glass Bracelet which have seen lots of sales which is exciting. For essential oils, I would say that Dream Weaver and Walking On Sunshine are our most popular blends.
5. What does 2018 have in store for Rock and Soul?
To keep on creating! The Mala necklaces are our big release for 2018 but we will keep on looking into new designs and trends in our spare time. As mental health is a big focus for Rock & Soul I would like to research and develop ways in which our products can spread more joy and happiness in the world. Jason is also keen to create some products for the lava loving fellas out there! Whatever the weather, we have one mission; “To help you find your happy.”
