Festive Florists in Edinburgh: Rose and Ammi
Christmas in Edinburgh is a magical time and we have sought out florists across Edinburgh to find out how to make your house feel as merry and joyous as possible. Lydia, owner of Tollcross ‘Rose and Ammi’ spoke to Dickins about the decorations that can make the biggest impact in your home, how they might be able to help and shared some insider tips with us.
Could you tell me a bit about yourself and your shop?
I launched Rose & Ammi three years ago, firstly focusing on weddings and events, then six months later I opened the shop in Tollcross.
How did you first discover your love for flowers?
As a child I was always surrounded by plants, and grew up with a love of the natural world, so when I decided to change career a few years back floristry seemed to be the obvious choice.
What kind of Christmas themed arrangements and wreaths can you offer?
This year we will be using lots of British grown tree branches and foliage to create really natural looking arrangements, for example, garlands, wreaths as well as floral table centrepieces. We will also be stocking Christmas decorations from some of our favourite Scandinavian designers.
How would you describe your style?
We are sometimes asked to create arrangements in different styles, and I am open to new ideas and aesthetics, but I would say our floral style is always natural and always beautiful.
If you had to receive a bouquet or such like from your own shop at Christmas, what would it feature?
I love foliage, so this would feature heavily in anything I chose for myself, also lots of textures – berries, seed heads and twigs. Probably some white Anemones too, flowers that look wintry without shouting ‘Christmas’.
What would be your top tip for decorating a house this Christmas?
I would recommend going for one large feature arrangement, perhaps on a mantlepiece or a garland on a staircase, rather than lots of little arrangements. This will create the wow factor when your guests walk in. Using seasonal foliage will add to the festive scent in your house.
